Contact Thin Eggbutt Snaffle 5"

The Contact Thin Eggbutt Snaffle 5" is a stainless-steel snaffle featuring a thin, jointed mouthpiece and stable eggbutt cheeks.

The narrow mouthpiece provides a stronger action than a thicker or hollow-mouth eggbutt, making it a useful option for horses that are somewhat strong in a thicker snaffle but do not require a stronger leverage-style bit such as a gag or Pelham.

The eggbutt cheek provides a stable cheekpiece design, while the jointed mouthpiece creates a traditional nutcracker action.

This is a versatile, commonly used snaffle suitable for a range of disciplines.

How the Bit Works

The thin jointed mouthpiece creates a traditional jointed snaffle action. The supplied manufacturer information describes contact with the:

• Bars of the mouth
• Tongue
• Roof of the mouth
• Corners of the mouth

Because the mouthpiece is particularly thin, it provides a stronger action than a thicker or hollow-mouth eggbutt.

The eggbutt cheeks provide a fixed cheekpiece configuration compared with a loose-ring snaffle.

Fitting

This bit has a 5" mouthpiece and a 7cm snaffle ring diameter.

Correct fitting is important, particularly with a thin mouthpiece. The bit should be selected according to the horse's mouth conformation and fitted correctly.

A thin mouthpiece should not automatically be considered suitable simply because a horse is strong; mouth conformation, training and rider hands all influence appropriate bit selection.

Competition suitability can vary by discipline and governing body, so check the current rules before competing.
