Bombers 4 Ring Williams Moulded Mullen - 125mm

The Bombers 4 Ring Williams Moulded Mullen – 125mm combines the versatile rein options of the Williams cheekpiece with Bombers' flexible synthetic Moulded Mullen mouthpiece.

The Williams design provides several rein-position options, allowing the action of the bit to be adjusted according to the chosen rein attachment. The centre ring can function similarly to a loose ring, while using the lower ring introduces increased leverage and poll pressure.

The Moulded Mullen mouthpiece is shaped, flattened and positioned at approximately 45 degrees, creating a broad contact area over and around the tongue. Its flexible synthetic construction makes it particularly worth considering for horses that dislike the feel of conventional metal mouthpieces.

Williams Cheekpiece

The 4 Ring Williams cheekpiece provides multiple rein positions, allowing the rider to alter the mechanical action of the bit.

When the rein is attached to the centre ring, the cheekpiece provides an action closer to that of a loose ring.

Moving the rein to a lower ring increases leverage and introduces greater poll pressure.

Bombers describes the Williams cheekpiece as encouraging flexion and helping with horses that tend to drift. The actual response will vary according to the horse, fit, rein position and rider's hands.

Because the different rein positions materially change the action of the bit, appropriate selection and fitting are important.

Moulded Mullen Mouthpiece

The Bombers Moulded Mullen has been specifically shaped and flattened rather than using a conventional round mouthpiece.

It is angled at approximately 45 degrees, creating a broad area of contact over and around the tongue.

At its centre is a flexible stainless-steel cable core, which is injection moulded with Bombers' specially developed flexible synthetic material.

This makes the Moulded Mullen particularly interesting for horses that object to the feel of metal in the mouth or prefer a flexible synthetic mouthpiece.

Ideal For

This bit may be considered for:

• Horses that dislike conventional metal mouthpieces.
• Horses that prefer a flexible Mullen-style mouthpiece.
• Riders wanting several rein-position options.
• Horses requiring greater control than a conventional snaffle may provide.
• Faster-paced disciplines where this type of cheekpiece is appropriate.
• Horses for which the Williams cheekpiece action has been professionally recommended.

Bit choice is highly individual, and suitability depends on the horse's mouth conformation, training, sensitivity, discipline, rider and existing way of going.

Fit & Sizing

Mouthpiece Size: 125mm

Bombers notes that horses with fleshy mouths may require additional width for the bit to sit comfortably.

Correct bit width is only one part of fitting. Mouthpiece thickness, tongue size, palate, bars, cheekpiece position and rein configuration should also be considered.

If you're uncertain about suitability, seek advice from an experienced bit fitter or appropriately qualified equestrian professional.

Rein Position & Action

The Williams cheekpiece should not be treated as having one fixed action.

Its action changes according to where the reins are attached, with lower rein positions creating more leverage than the centre ring.

This versatility can be useful, but riders should understand the effect of each configuration before changing rein positions.
